Joist

Joist
A joist is a term used in construction and floor installation. It refers to wearing elements placed under the floorboards in order to maintain the floor structure. Joists are most often placed in parallel to the direction in which the floorboards are to be located. They are structural elements that support the entire floor and at the same time allow for even load distribution. Joists are usually attached to beams placed below them, thus creating a solid and durable floor structure.
